Training for Excellence in Sport & Leadership-7
Course Description:
Are you an aspiring athlete who would like to be involved in gaining a deeper understanding of the more ‘complete’ athlete? You will gain further insight into challenges, teamwork, strategies, skill development, and fitness and conditioning. You will also have the chance to apply your knowledge and understanding by being a ‘coach’ to students from other classes at Willow Park in a sport setting. Please be ready to participate as a leader and as a follower, and work to your best ability especially when you are most challenged.
Stem 1: Prepares for and responds to personal challenges and team dynamics
Examples of Topics covered:
·      Mental Toughness

·      Awareness of success and Failure in sport
·      Goal setting, time-management

·      Communication in sport
Leadership

·      Current events and issues in sport
Respect in sport
Stem 2: Refines and strategically applies sport skills and tactics
Examples of Topics covered:
1.    Skill development and tactics

2.    Manage sport equipment and material

3.    Learn and perform safe training methods & practices
4.    Develops and applies strategies to improve performance
Stem 3: Enhances performance through fitness and conditioning development
Examples of Topics covered:
·      Effective training to reduce risk of injury

·      Improving sport performance through training

·      Develop and maintain a personal training program
Required Materials:
·      Gym Strip
·      Pen/Pencil
·      Notebook

Assessment:
The purpose of assessment is to improve learning and therefore will be on-going throughout the course. Assessment will be in the form of observations, conversations, assignments, and projects. Your achievement will be based on communicating your knowledge and skills of the outcomes in one or more of the above ways.
Student Expectations:
It is expected that students check the Blog on a regular basis for news items, copies of assignments, upcoming due dates and content covered. Blogger is our main form of communication between home and school and it is essential that you take personal responsibility for ensuring you are aware of what is posted, especially if you were absent.
